Age<\/strong>: A class for middle school aged students (recommended age 8-12<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

Course Description:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

In today’s world, we use technology in almost every aspect of our daily lives, making digital literacy skills more important than ever. This class sets students up for future success by teaching the fundamentals of how-to code in Python, and basics of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students will learn Python syntax such as conditionals, loops, functions, and lists and use their knowledge to create projects such as fun games! They will be able to code proficiently in Python before learning about AI basics in the latter half of the year. Our AI section will focus on learning the basics of how AI models work, different types of AI, and their real-life applications. Students will gain hands-on experience on using and building AI models. Our class will utilize online resources such as Google Classroom to keep track of students \u2018progress, Replit to write code, and interactive games like Kahoot to check students \u2018knowledge. This class is appropriate for students with little to no prior experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About Teachers:<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Emily Chen<\/strong>, is a rising senior at Newton North High School and has always been interested in technology! She is proficient in Java and Python and founded her school’s Girls in AI club. She is passionate about technology and aims to use her experience to help younger students develop an interest in programming and AI.<\/p>\n

Clara Liu<\/strong>\u00a0is a sophomore at Needham High School. She has been learning Java for over three years, and recently took the AP CSA exam. She also enjoys participating in programming contests. As a TA, she hopes that she can encourage students to pursue their coding interests.<\/p>\n
