Unexpected benefit of learning Latin for children:
- Latin study is likely to have academic benefits for your child across all subjects.
- Learning Latin helps increase Math scores. It appears that because Latin’s grammatical structure has much in common with the structure of mathematical logic, learning Latin may have knock-on benefits in Math.
- Latin helps children with their grasp of basic grammar and syntax. It also builds their vocabulary.
- Learning Latin makes grasping another language easier. Studying Latin provides the foundation for learning other modern foreign languages – even German or Russian.
- Latin teaches children about Ancient History. Learning Latin and the Classics opens children’s eyes to the wonders of classical civilization and gives them new cultural reference points.
- Latin prepares children for scientific, legal, or medical careers.
- Latin develops a child for computer programming. Since computer programming uses its own set of languages, its rules are a lot easier to understand with a Latin background.
Class description:
Try Aequora and see how Latin can improve your critical and analytical thinking, language arts skills, and problem-solving!
Aequora is an outreach program of the Paideia Institute, designed to be an engaging, relevant, and inclusive introductory Latin curriculum. The Aequora curriculum will introduce the basics of Latin vocabulary, grammar,
Roman culture, and mythology through interactive activities, hands-on story-telling, and exciting games. Such activities include matching games and puzzles, acting out skits and plays, creating crafts that the Romans used to make, and (safe) relay races. More importantly, Aequora is designed to engage the student’s critical and analytical thinking skills, whether through re-enacting a famous ancient battle or a serious discussion about the outdated societal norms enacted by the Romans.
