Fun Writing (P3/P4)

Fun Writing (P3 or P4)

Age: 6 -11

Welcome to Fun Writing!

This class serves as a way to improve the writing skills of children ages 6-12. Throughout the course, students will learn about and fine tune important writing skills, such as sentence structure, vocabulary, and how to construct a cohesive and organized plot.

Writing serves many purposes. Through writing, people tell intricate stories, record what goes on in their daily lives, and express their thoughts and ideas. This class will help students do all of those through different subjects and themes.

Students will write about a variety of topics. Each week will have different prompts to write about. For instance, one-word prompts. The topic may either be physical like an object, or something more abstract like emotions. Students will write a story that relates to and evokes the image or feeling of that word. The ambiguity of prompts will allow them to write more freely and creatively.

Elements of an engrossing story will be focused on in this class. Students will work on developing a well-written plot, and expand upon their vocabulary so that the content of the plot will become more engaging and eloquent. Concepts such as the plot pyramid and proper grammar when writing dialogue will be covered, in addition to ideas that may take longer to get the hang of, such as “show, don’t tell.”
