Course Description

Explore the exciting world of computer science, coding, robotics, and artificial intelligence through hands-on LEGO building and programming!

Students will learn fundamental computer science concepts—including events, loops, conditionals, and variables—while designing, building, and programming LEGO robots using the LEGO Coding Canvas. Through interactive projects and hands-on challenges, students will develop computational thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork skills.

No prior coding or robotics experience is required. Students will learn step by step and apply what they learn to create, test, improve, and present their own projects.

What Students Will Learn

The course includes six units:

  • Computer Science Basics, Events, Loops, Conditionals, Variables, AI & Data

Each unit includes four lessons followed by a design challenge, giving students an opportunity to apply their new skills to a hands-on project.

Students will work in teams of four throughout the course. They will collaborate to plan, build, program, test, troubleshoot, and improve their robots. At the end of each project, teams will have opportunities to demonstrate and present their designs.

Computers & Materials

Students will work in groups of four, with each group sharing one computer to design and program their robots using the LEGO Coding Canvas.

Computers will not be provided by CCLS. Each group should have at least one student bring a laptop or computer that can access the LEGO Coding Canvas through a web browser.

Instructors

David Guo, David is a high school freshman with a strong interest in STEM, robotics, and programming. He has participated in robotics competitions, where he has developed skills in problem-solving, programming, and teamwork. David has also gained teaching experience as a Teaching Assistant at CCLS. He enjoys hands-on, interactive projects and looks forward to helping students discover the fun of coding, robotics, and STEM.

Michael Cobb, Michael is a tenth-grade student who enjoys badminton and photography and has a strong interest in technology and coding. He is excited to share his knowledge with younger students and help them take their first steps into the world of programming. Michael hopes to make coding approachable, creative, and fun for every student.

电脑及学习用品

学生将以四人为一组,每组共用一台电脑,通过 LEGO Coding Canvas 设计和编程机器人。

CCLS不提供电脑。 每组至少需要有一名学生携带可以连接互联网的笔记本电脑或电脑,并能够通过网页浏览器使用 LEGO Coding Canvas。

教师简介:

David Guo, David目前就读高中九年级,对 STEM、机器人和编程有浓厚兴趣。他曾参加机器人竞赛,在比赛中培养了编程、解决问题和团队合作能力。David也曾担任 CCLS 助教,积累了教学经验。他喜欢动手实践和互动式项目,并希望通过这门课程帮助学生发现编程、机器人和 STEM 学习的乐趣。Michael Cobb, Michael目前就读高中十年级,喜欢羽毛球和摄影,同时对科技和编程有浓厚兴趣。他很乐意与低年级学生分享自己的知识,帮助他们迈出学习编程的第一步。Michael希望让编程变得简单、有趣、富有创造力,让每一位学生都能享受探索科技的过程。
